"रात्र  काळी घागर काळी" या नामदेवांच्या गौळणीची माझ्यावर मोहिनी आहे...कितीवेळा ऐकल तरी समाधान होत नाही....

ओराल यांच्या चित्रात काळा रंग घोर निराशा, कदाचित अंतिम पाडाव घेऊन आलाय, सरवटे म्हणतात तस चित्त गोठवून टाकणारा आहे..

पण नामदेवांच्या गौळणीत तो सौंदर्याचा वाहक आहे ...मोहक आहे.. रात्रीच्या व  पर्यायाने जीवनाच्या प्रेमात पाडवणारा आहे....दिवस उगवेलच  पण काळी रात्रच व तिच्या सारख काळ असलेले आणि तिच्या मुळ काळ झालेल सगळच किती सुंदर आहे...

दोन्ही कलाकृती अभिजात आहेत ....

मिरजेतला कोणताही वाडा.....The Courtyard of a House in Delft

खालील चित्र पहिले आणि, गोऱ्या बायका सोडल्या तर, एकदम लहानपणच्या मिरजेतल्या कोणत्यातरी वाड्यात गेल्यासारखे वाटले ...भारतात अस चित्र काढल गेलय का?

या चित्राचे वर्णन गार्डियन पेपर मध्ये असे करण्यात आले आहे:
 "A quiet moment in a Dutch town more than 350 years ago is preserved in all its ordinariness and wonder by this magical painting. Bricks and stone flooring are depicted with a meticulous observation of reality that goes back in north European art to the early 15th-century masterpieces of Jan van Eyck. By the time de Hooch put this little courtyard into oils, the scientific revolution was adding a new dimension to the exactitude of Dutch art. One of de Hooch’s fellow Delft burghers was Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, inventor of the compound microscope. Another was the still sharper observational painter Johannes Vermeer. This is a lovely survival from a golden age of seeing.

मोगरा फुलला , एमिली डिकिन्सन यांचा...Emily Dickinson's Jasmine

 एमिली डिकिन्सन यांना मराठी भावविश्वातील मोगऱ्याचे महत्व नक्कीच माहित नव्हते, पण त्यांचे सुद्धा मोगऱ्याबरोबर एक विशेष नाते होते.

“In an era when the scientific establishment barred and bolted its gates to women, botany allowed Victorian women to enter science through the permissible backdoor of art, most famously in Beatrix Potter’s scientific drawings of mushrooms and Margaret Gatty’s stunning illustrated classification of seaweed. Across the Atlantic, this art-science adventure in botany found an improbable yet impassioned practitioner in one of humanity’s most beloved and influential poets: Emily Dickinson (December 10, 1830–May 15, 1886).” [Maria Popova, Brainpickings.org, 2017]

मी लहानपणी काहीवेळा पुस्तकातून पिंपळाची पान ठेवली आहेत पण हरब्यारियम (herbarium) ,शुष्क वनस्पतींची चिकटवही, सारखा प्रकार कधीच नाही. डिकिन्सन यांच्या हरब्यारियम मध्ये आहेत: 

"424 flowers from the Amherst region, which Dickinson celebrated as “beautiful children of spring,” arranged with a remarkable sensitivity to scale and visual cadence across sixty-six pages in a large leather-bound album." [Maria Popova, Brainpickings.org, 2017]

त्यात पहिल्याच पानावर आहे मोगरा. 

"An especially peculiar feature of Dickinson’s herbarium is her choice for the opening page: tropical jasmine — not a plant native to the traditional flora of her time and place, but one native, perhaps, to the wilderness of her imagination — the selfsame imagination from which her tradition-breaking verses and forbidden loves blossomed...

... The appearance of the jasmine as the first flower of the herbarium is symbolic of that aspect of Emily Dickinson’s life that is most associated with love and crisis."
