जेम्स व्हीसलर यांच्या वरील दोन भागातील दीर्घ लेखात (४१ पानी, समाविष्ट 'नांगी असलेले फुलपाखरू', १९८९) द ग गोडसे खालील गोष्टीचा उल्लेख करत नाहीत :
"After falling out with painter James McNeill Whistler over the merits of their chosen art forms, Oscar Wilde based the character of a murdered artist in “The Picture of Dorian Gray” on his former friend...."
म्हणजे जेम्स व्हीसलर “The Picture of Dorian Gray”, १८९० मुळे सुद्धा अजरामर झाले आहेत!
