This eye catching picture titled "View from Panwell", I came across in "Voyages And Travels To India, Ceylon The Red Sea Abyssinia And Egypt In The Years 1802-1806 Vol II" published in 1809 written by George Viscount Valentia, (1770-1844) illustrated by Henry Salt (1780-1827).
Valentia traveled from South Mumbai to Pune (about 150+ km) in palanquin (not on horse) in October 1803.
Even today the route (one of the most traveled in India today) goes via Panvel, that seems to
have nothing in common with the Panvel in picture!
Our past now looks more and more like scifi.
