जानेवारी ३० १९४८ ला पौष महिना सुरु होता...

पण त्यानंतर नेहमीप्रमाणे माघ सुरु होणार...त्यावर मर्ढेकर पौष-मघाची हितगुज, इंग्रजांचा इसवी सन-आणि आपल्या कॅलेंडर सारखा किंचित सुद्धा नागमोडी नाही म्हणून- कवायतीचा ... असे किती सुंदर असे भाष्य करतात ...

माझी आई सुद्धा २००६ साली पौषात गेली... त्यादिवशी मला एका क्षणी चेकॉव्ह यांचे खालील लेखन आठवले ..

"It was noisy in the main marketplace; there were swings going up and down, barred organs playing, an accordion wheezing away, and drunken voices calling out. And then pony-rides began on the main street in the afternoon- it was all great fun, in a word; everything went well, just as it had the previous year, and as it probably would the following one." चांदोबातील गोष्ट? ...Why Hasn't Sangit Manapman Been Captured On Screen As It Is?

माझी संगीत मानापमान या विषयावरची जानेवारी २०११ मधली पहिली पोस्ट इथे पहा ... 

अलीकडच्या मानापमान सिनेमाबद्दल भावे साहेब एका मुलाखतीत म्हणाले की मी एक चांदोबातील कालातीत गोष्ट काढली आहे ...मला ऐकून वाटले मग सिनेमाचे नाव पण 'चांदोबातील गोष्ट' असेच द्यायचे ... 

भावे म्हणतात की त्यांना  पौराणिक विषयावरच्या नाटकावर सिनेमा बेतायचा नवहता , पण ते तर खाडिलकरांनाच नको होते (पहा: 'गंधर्वयुग', लेखक गंगाधर गाडगीळ, २००५, पृष्ठ ४२), त्यांनी अत्यंत यशस्वी पौराणिक पण गद्य नाटक (किचकवध) लिहले होते, म्हणून  ते एक हलकं , फुलकं , गोडवा असलेले (पण महान संगीत सौभद्र सारखे पौराणिक नव्हे) संगीत नाटक त्यांनी लिहले , मग आता अजून पुढे जाऊन चांदोबाची गोष्ट कसली?

अधुनिक मराठी  रंगभूमीच्या इतिहासातील सर्वात यशस्वी नाटक जसेच्या तसे मराठी सिनेमा म्हणून का काढता येत नाही, हे मला कधी समजणार नाही...

शेक्सपियर ची अनेक नाटके सिनेमात आली आहेत , अगदी हिंदी भाषेत सुद्धा , जसे मकबूल , जे मला फार आवडले .. असे म्हणतात की राम गणेश गडकरींचे 'एकच प्याला', १९१७ हे सुद्धा ऑथेल्लो वर आधारित आहे असे प्रल्हाद केशव अत्रे म्हणतात...

१९४५ साली मर्ढेकरांच्या पांगलेल्या गाई आणि त्यांचे आजचे भक्षक...B S Mardhekar's Poem Showing His Uncanny Vision

बा. सी. मर्ढेकर यांची एक कविता  आहे:

"सुखदुःखांचे गळे कापुनी
मळे पिकविले वर्षांनी तरि,
रवंथ काढी कुढ़या मनाची
जुनाच भाकड़-कडबा हा वरि.

कुड़ीकुड़ींतिल भाव लाळला;
आचळ धरिती पातळ आशा;
अधू मनाची दुडकी कुठवर-
जमेल तर ही जिथवर भाषा,

-अणि पांगल्या गाई जगभर
गोमूत्रानें पावन अंबर!"

म वा धोंड यांच्या मते मर्ढेकर इथे  San Francisco Conference, ज्याचे पुढे UN झाली त्याची निराशेपोटी थट्टा करत आहेत. (Sir Arcot Ramaswamy Mudaliar ह्यात भारताचे प्रतिनिधी होते.) . ज्या भारतीयांनी दोन महायुद्धे पहिली त्यांच्या मनोवस्थेची आज आपल्याला कल्पना सुद्धा करता येणार नाही. 

कवितेतील गाई म्हणजे San Francisco Conference (एप्रिल ते जून १९४५) मध्ये भाग घेतलेले देश आणि गाय का तर त्या Conference ला येण्यासाठी अमेरिकन राष्ट्राध्यक्षांनी वापरलेले विमान : ज्याचे नाव होते Sacred Cow.  

सुरवातीला रवंथ आहे त्या ठिकाणच्या चर्चांची निरर्थकता दाखवण्यासाठी. शिवाय The League of Nations ला  दुसरे महायुद्ध टाळण्यात आलेले अपयश.

WSJ ने जानेवारी १७ २०२५ ला एक लेख छापला आहे : "In a New Age of Empire, Great Powers Aim to Carve Up the Planet :After World War II, nations pledged to create a more equal and law-abiding world. Now Russia, China and the U.S. are returning to an older model in which powerful countries impose their will."

"In 1945, the victorious Allied powers gathered in San Francisco to draft a charter for the United Nations, the foundation of a new global order that would make another world war impossible. The charter proclaimed that all countries had equal rights and would no longer resort to “the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state.” President Harry Truman told the assembled delegates that “the responsibility of the great states is to serve, and not to dominate, the peoples of the world,”

Today, these lofty principles look quaint, if not outright irrelevant, as the world returns to what was presumed to be the natural law of statecraft since the dawn of history: The strong do as they please and the weak suffer as they must..."

ही वाट दूर जाते...Monet's Path in the Wheat Fields at Pourville, 1882

"The Path in the Wheat Fields at Pourville is one of my favorite paintings by the artist in the Denver Art Museum collection. We recognize the site of Pourville thanks to the distinctive white cliffs to the left, and yet a simple path dominates the scene. It takes over almost the entire lower half of the painting, accentuating with its gentle curve the intersecting lines of the beach, sea, and ground, resulting in a picture that is simple in details and highly sophisticated in composition. What I find remarkable in this work is Monet’s ability to integrate every element to create a scene of balanced, timeless harmony and convey all the spontaneity of a captured moment in time."

आशियाई हत्ती का अफ्रिकी? ...Asian Elephants or African?

काही अफ्रिकी हत्ती इतके महाकाय दिसतात की मला वाटायचे त्यांची आणि आशियाई हत्ती यांची झुंझ लागली तर ती एकतर्फी ठरेल.... 

मे २०२४ मध्ये मी ट्विटर वर पोस्ट पहिली की Battle of Rafah, 217 BC ह्या लढाईत वरील मुकाबला म्हणे पहिल्यांदा झाला होता .... 

आणि असे ही म्हणतात की त्यात आशियाई हत्तींचा विजय झाला होता...

फोटोत हे लिहले नाहीये की ह्या खारी किती विध्वंसक असू शकायच्या! 

1982 साली मी मिरजेहून माझ्या ब्रह्मपुत्रा होस्टेलच्या तिसऱ्या मजल्यावरील खोलीत परतलो होतो. सोबत माझ्या आईने करून दिलेला माझा त्याकाळातील अतिप्रिय पातळ पोह्यांचा चिवडा होता. तो मी भिंतीतील कप्प्यात सर्वात वरती ठेवला होता. चिवडा त्यावेळी मिळणाऱ्या सर्फच्या मोठया पेट बरणीत होता. मी त्या चिवड्याकडे एखाद्या मांजरासारखे पहात असे. मला तो जमेल तेवढा पुरवून खायचा होता...

आणि एक दिवस घात झाला. मी खोलीचे मागचे दार बंद करायला विसरलो- पहिल्यांदाच आणि एकदाच. त्यातून  खार आत आली. तिने बरणीचे वरचे जाड आणि टणक झाकण कुरतडले आणि सर्व चिवडा खाऊन पसार झाली....

मी परत आल्यावर ते पाहून रडकुंडीला आलो होतो, आजही इतक्या वर्षांनंतर त्याची चुटपुट आहे... 

"दाणे दाणे" पें लिखा है खानेवाले का नाम...  (आईच्या चिवड्यात खूप तळून घातलेले दाणे असत)
