The industry all over Inida collapsed not suddenly. The process went on for some years. And the last straw was prolonged strike in Mumbai mills led by Dr. Datta Samant. But in the past a few years, workers did not work with sincerity and zeal. They were more interested in bonus, preferably in cash irrespective of profit or loss.Mill owners' next generation wanted to invest their money in other lucrative field, such as IT. And politicians with Govt. did not other than pouring oil in the fire, to their convenience trying to grab share from both. I worked in textile machinery manufacturing industry, which had all sorts of modern machinery to equip mills, but they never wanted to enjoy benefits. So, in short, all contributed the death of Indian textile industry. It ultimately said "He Ram" some time after 1989 when the strike was never called off by Dr. Samant.
I think, some two ladies have written a book, which has been published by Mouj Prakashan. It narrates the history or rise and fall of Mumbai textile industry
And Aniruddha, this may be applicable to all industries. Do you agree with me?
Lately, I observe that nowadays, you do not comment on the opinions expressed by readers.
Mangesh Nabarmannabhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15475762165895534177noreply@blogger.com
